Cool for kitchens
Bored with your kitchen but can’t invest in a new one? Here are a dozen ways to give it an easy, on-trend update…
1. IN THE CHAIR
Instead of matching your chairs to your wooden table or going for the usual white, opt for seating in different bright colours – pictured right are classic Eames DSW chairs (nest. co.uk). Tie them in with a bright poster poster.
2. TAP IN
It’s the little things that can make a difference. Swap your old tap for a stylish new one – the Sync tap (left) from dornbracht.com looks great and has a pull-down fitting for power washing.
3. OPEN OUT
Having open shelves and showing off your gorgeous kitchenware is a big trend and it makes your kitchen look pretty too. Go for shelves that are a contrast to your walls or blend them in for a streamlined look.
4. TABLE FOR TWO
Got a small kitchen? Give yourself an eating space with the nifty Table Plus (left) from magnet.co.uk. It’s transformed from a smart shelf into a table when the door is folded down. Clever!
5. BOXED U P
Create a fab display with a paint line and wooden boxes – go blue to plug into this season’s trend for this super-chic colour. Find your boxes on etsy.com/uk.
TAKE A TOWEL
Tea towels are just the thing for injecting colour and graphic style to a kitchen – but you don’t have to just hang them over the oven door; frame them and make them into works of art.
POT LOVE
Having fresh herbs in your kitchen is a super-easy way to do grow-your-own, plus houseplants are seriously on trend. These smarties (above) from evasolo.com are self-watering. Perfect!
HOT TO HANDLE
New cabinet handles, such as this elegant Holy Wafer style from superfront.com, are a quick and easy way to refresh kitchen cabinets.
LIGHT FANTASTIC
Statement lights really up-style a kitchen, giving it a less functional feel. These copper Mirror Ball lights (left) by Tom Dixon (heals.co. uk) add interior design bling and pick up on the metallic trend, too.
STICK ’EM UP
Style a blank space with a sticker!
LOOK I NG BRIGHTE R
Don’t have the cash to change all of your cabinet doors? Then just do the top ones. Go for a bright colour such as these yellow ones from ikea.co.uk, for a pop of yearround sunshine. If you have wooden cabinets then get painting! Coordinate the colour with a bright splash elsewhere, such as chairs or a stool.
PICK A PAPE R
Use an amazing wallpaper (this is Brazilliance, approx £166 per roll at dorothydraper.com) to give your kitchen space serious wow factor. Protect it with a low upstand in the same material as the worktop, and a glass splashback that does not interfere with the design.
