How ‘ disillusioned Diane broke Joshua’s heart’
BACK IN APRIL, Grazia exclusively revealed that Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson’s 10-year relationship was drawing to a close. Last week, reps for both actors confirmed their decision to split, saying in a joint statement they had ‘decided to separate and remain friends’.
According to one source close to the pair, ‘They’ve gone through a “silent separation” over the last six months, and have been living largely apart. Eventually, it was Diane who drew a line under things. Josh was always hopeful that they could recapture the spark, and Diane’s decision to move from Paris to New York in March was seen as a last-ditch attempt to salvage things. Sadly, it wasn’t to be.’
Diane, 40, appeared to allude to the split on 15 July when she celebrated her birthday without Joshua, 38, writing on Instagram, ‘It’s my party and I cry if I want to #anewbeginning.’ She later captioned a video of the New York skyline, ‘It’s just an au revoir, not an adieu.’ The actor had previously described her move to New York as ‘a big step into adulthood for me, to allow that time for someone else out of my time. I’m a loner. I think it has held me back in life quite a bit.’
The source added, ‘Diane is fiercely independent and ended up resenting leaving Paris to be with Joshua. She’s also disillusioned with Hollywood and wasn’t interested in attending events as part of a power couple, she needs her own space. The move was make or break and, in the end, it broke them. Joshua is heartbroken.’
Meanwhile, he is said to have persistent doubts about the true nature of Diane’s friendship with Norman Reedus, who they both starred with in the film Sky. Last December, Diane was reportedly spotted kissing Norman in a New York bar while Joshua was in the Philippines filming a documentary.
‘They had their fair share of issues but fully intend to stay friends,’ said the source.
