split from Amber Heard could be about to take yet another dramatic turn. When Amber filed for divorce in May, after 15 months of marriage, it took just days for their feud to go nuclear, amid allegations that during the relationship Johnny had been ‘physically and emotionally abusive’.

As the A-list lined up to take sides, Johnny’s ex-partner of 14 years, Vanessa Paradis, rushed to his defence. In an open letter she declared, ‘Johnny Depp is the father of my two children, he is a sensitive, loving and loved person, and I believe with all my heart that these recent allegations being made are outrageous. In all the years I have known Johnny, he has never been physically abusive with me and this looks like the man I lived with for 14 wonderful years.’

Now, Johnny’s family are urging the pair to rekindle their relationship. Speaking exclusively to Grazia, Heather Rassel, who was previously married to Johnny’s nephew Billy and has stayed close to the family, said, ‘Johnny and Vanessa are best friends, even now. Vanessa has been there for him throughout this entire thing. After everything that’s happened she will always stand by him. I’m rooting for them to get back together. We all are.’

The couple, whose children are the actor and model Lily-rose, 17, and John, 14, split in 2012 amid rumours that Johnny had grown close to Amber while they filmed The Rum Diary together in 2011. Johnny and Vanessa never married. ‘Johnny was more about being partners with someone than putting something on paper,’ said Heather. ‘He and Vanessa never even had the conversation about getting married.’

The latest news comes after Johnny reportedly requested that details of the divorce are kept private. Speaking at her home in Kentucky, Heather added, ‘I think Johnny will settle with her out of court. Not because he’s guilty of anything, but because it will be easier. He knows she is entitled to compensation. He is very fair and will accept that.’

Amber, meanwhile, has insisted that she ‘could and would competently testify’ against Johnny.
