the haute ‘cou- tourist’
YOUR AVERAGE TOURIST’S
wardrobe is stocked with practical-butnot-so-chic staples. Think cagoules, I ♥ London tees, cargo pants, all-terrain trainers and backpacks worn as frontpacks. While we wouldn’t have expected Riri to slip on a cagoule while globe-trotting on her Anti tour, she has swung right to the other end of the style spectrum with her to-die-for designer wardrobe. Indeed, why dress like a tourist when you can dress like a haute cou-tourist? A tram tour of Prague would make most travellers’ itineraries, but we imagine Rihanna’s the first to take it in a Balenciaga slogan shearling stole, Faustine Steinmetz tube dress, Dior shades and Vetements sock
boots. Sightseeing on Paris’s equivalent of the London Eye is all well and good, but doing so in ruffled Marques’almeida denim, a powder blue and burgundy Fendi stole and Dsquared2 stilettos so needlethin they make a perforated walkway a test of bravery? That’s Extreme Sightseeing, only to be attempted by expert style-stars. Givenchy lace-up boots in Paris, Rosie Assoulin chevron co-ords in Antibes, a Versace backpack in Amsterdam and Vetements’ cult-buy yellow floral dress in Stockholm all made the cut (we’re guessing Riri forked out the extra £40 to check in a bag), which begs the question: with the bar set this high, what’s left for the red carpet?
