GUCCI GOT INTO TROUBLE

-

Canadian skateboarder turned Olympic snowboarder turned musician (and the man behind Grazia’s special subscriber’s cover – see editor’s letter) Trevor ‘Trouble’ Andrew isn’t short of talents, but it’s his latest project that brought him to the attention of the fashion world, and of Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele, with whom he has collaborated since February. Andrew says, ‘It all l started when I didn’t have a Halloween costume, so I threw a Gucci sheet over my head and put eyeholes in it, and skated around. People were like, “Gucci ghost! Gucci ghost!” I started painting that because I thought it was funny, and it made people excited and curious. And then I became the Gucci ghost, being the guy that nobody really sees, ghosting the brand, creating this whole other life that wasn’t there yet.’ Andrew started branding everything with Gucci’s double-g monogram, from garbage bins to street corners. ‘I just felt like if somebody at Gucci could just see this, they would get it. And everyone was like, “They’ll never get it, man!”’ Only they did. Today, Andrew is eating pizza in the office above Gucci’s flagship NY store in Trump Tower, his hands still flecked with white paint from the artwork he’s created for us. His graffiti – cartoon-y ghosts and dripped-paint Gs – can be seen all over the store, on leather jackets, pleated skirts, loafers and even the £1,110 chain-handled bags. As is the phrase ‘life is Gucci’. ‘It means life is great, life is amazing, you know. Simple as that.’ Sounds pretty Gucci to us.
