FOR A STREET- STYLE STAR, getting papped at fashion week is serious business; so much so that the high-profile (oft well-paid) art of blogging has sparked serious debate of late. (If you missed it during fashion month, some of American Vogue’s star writers objected to ‘a bought-and-paid-for front row’ who are ‘heralding the death of style’, prompting outraged bloggers like Susie Lau and Bryan Boy to bite back against ‘schoolyard bullying’ from ‘the ivory tower’.) But you only have to flick through the pages of Grazia to see we celebrate anyone who loves fashion enough to make a career out of it. So, why are street-style stars so relevant? While the catwalks provide us with fresh-from-the-cutting-room fashion, it’s the street-style squad who break it all down and demonstrate how to wear it. This season, they’re more or less falling into two unapologetical unapologetically maximalist camps: Supersized Silhouettes versus Extreme Embellishment. For the form former, seek out sleeves that look almost inflatable inflatable, cuffs that hide your hands and hemlines that graze the ground. Balenciaga made va-va-volume a trend, so take your cue from the catwalk in an XXL puffer jacket, or try Warehouse’s wide-leg trousers dans la offic office. If in doubt, just buy everything one or two s sizes bigger than usual. Meanwhile, those of the magpie persuasion will love the glitter, lamé anda sequins sweeping the streets, from Kurt Geiger’sGe over-the-knee boots to New Look’s dazzler ofo a shift. Forget Christmas parties, wear them tot brunch instead – try a sequinned knit with jeans,j or offset an outré skirt with a crisp white shirt.sh You might raise a few eyebrows – but why not?n
