Cara’s heartbreak over ex- girlfriend’s ‘ betrayal’

IT’S OFFICIAL. Following weeks of mounting speculation, Kristen Stewart and Annie Clark, aka St Vincent, have finally confirmed they are the A-list’s hottest new ‘celesbian’ power couple.
Wearing matching sunglasses at a fundraiser in West Hollywood last week, the pair were pictured giggling arm-in-arm as they made their first public appearance together.
But one person who is said to be less than thrilled is Cara Delevingne. In September, Grazia exclusively revealed that she and Annie had broken up after 18 months, with the singer instigating the split. At the time, sources insisted ‘there had been no big row’, with Annie blaming their hectic work schedules for pushing them apart. But just two weeks earlier, Kristen and Annie had been spotted having dinner together – prompting immediate speculation about the nature of their friendship.
Now, following dozens more photographs of the pair on a series of dates in LA and New York, sources say Cara has grown suspicious about the real reasons behind Annie’s decision to call time on their romance.
‘When Annie broke up with Cara, she said it was because she didn’t want a long-distance relationship, even though they had been practically living together,’ said one insider. ‘Towards the end, Cara had become suspicious that there could be someone else, but Annie never told her about Kristen.
‘Then, as soon as Cara saw pictures of them together, everything slotted into place. Now she’s convinced that Annie cheated on her and that she ended their relationship so she could be with Kristen.’
The Twilight actor is fast earning a reputation as one of Hollywood’s biggest heartbreakers. In 2012, Kristen was embroiled in an A-list scandal when photos emerged of her cheating on Robert Pattinson with the married director Rupert Sanders. She later issued a heartfelt public apology.
Then, in 2015, Kristen was linked to the special-effects producer Alicia Cargile, before beginning a romance with the French singer Soko. The new relationship ended when Kristen reunited with Alicia at Cannes, with Soko writing on Instagram: ‘I hate cheaters.’ More recently, Kristen was said to have put Alicia ‘on the back-burner’ to pursue her relationship with Annie.
Annie’s new romance has raised eyebrows among Cara’s inner circle, coming just months after the model said in an interview, ‘I’m completely in love. Before I didn’t know what love was – real love. I didn’t understand the depth of it. I used to think it was you against the world. Now I know the meaning of life is love.’
The source continued, ‘This is tearing Cara apart, and she is completely heartbroken. She’s had relationships before, but Annie was very much her first love. She’s admitted that she’s never felt pain like it.
‘The fact that she now feels completely betrayed by Annie makes things so much worse. Her friends feel like she was duped by Annie, who they accuse of acting in an especially heartless way by flaunting her new romance. Cara is a vulnerable person, and this whole episode has really shaken her. She’s told friends that she feels like she doesn’t know who she can trust.’
The biggest fear, friends say, is that Cara’s old demons could be back to haunt her after losing Annie. The model-turnedactor has previously discussed Annie’s steadying influence over her amid her struggles with anxiety and depression, saying last year, ‘I think that being in love with my girlfriend is a big part of why I’m feeling so happy with who I am these days. And for those words to come out of my mouth is actually a miracle.’
In the same interview, she admitted she would often be ‘hit with a massive wave of… self-hatred, where the feelings were so painful that I would slam my head against a tree to knock myself out. I just wanted to dematerialise and have someone sweep me away.’
‘Everyone knows that Cara went through some seriously dark times at the start of her career,’ continued the insider. ‘Friends credited Annie with “saving her” and adding consistency to what was a very chaotic life.
‘Now they’re terrified that Cara is going into freefall. At the moment, all she can do is throw herself into work, and try not to think about Annie and Kristen.
‘The old Cara would have had a fling to distract herself, but right now that’s the last thing on her mind. Her friends and family are rallying around, and everyone is hoping that she can stay strong during this tough time.’
