Why geeks are so chic

-

STRANGER THINGS were happening on the Louis Vuitton catwalk this week. Among the sequin shifts and brocade coats, creative director Nicolas Ghesquière included a Stranger Things tribute T-shirt in the S/S ’18 collection. Layered over a voluminous prairie blouse and worn with narrow trousers, it got the LV stamp of approval. Netflix and chic.

So, is the sci-fi tee the new statement staple? It certainly piqued our interest (no mean feat after a month of catwalks). Though one obsessive of the show, who’s been wearing her own fan tee for months (you can get versions for less than £20 – Redbubble does a good one. No word yet on what Vuitton’s will retail for, but it will be more than £20), tells us, ‘Geek T-shirts are for geeks not the catwalk.’

But who’s to say the two are mutually exclusive? Ghesquière’s own sci-fi geekdom has been written across many of his collections – both at Balenciaga and now Vuitton – where he’s riffed on everything from Star

Wars to The Ghost In The Shell. One thing’s for sure, your next Netflix binge is going to feel stylish.
