The winding Moraine Lake Road in the Valley of Ten Peaks gives you thrilling views of the iconic Rocky Mountains, and on either side of the road are forests of pine, but also larch – which in autumn add gorgeous colour. But you have to time it just right as autumn is a fleeting season up here, just a few weeks between the green of the alpine summer and the heavy white of winter snow that closes the road. Do make it all the way to the glacial-blue Lake Moraine that’s surrounded by waterfalls and craggy rocks for more stupendous vistas.
