Inside Meghan’s social detox

-

There are numerous reasons why you might terminate a friendship with Piers Morgan (his support for Donald Trump; his reference to PTSD as ‘whiny needy twerp syndrome’; his ‘scepticism’ over Madonna and Lady Gaga’s rape claims). For Meghan Markle? It was her relationship with Prince Harry.

According to the controversial columnist, his friendship with Meghan went cold after news broke that she was dating Harry (‘I didn’t hear from Meghan after her royal romance erupted into the public gaze,’ he said).

And it seems he’s not alone. Insiders tell Grazia that Meghan has quietly severed ties with many of her famous friends since meeting Harry.

‘A lot of Meghan’s friends haven’t heard from her since the news broke,’ said a royal insider. ‘In some cases, she sent a mutual friend to explain she would no longer be in touch. People understood as soon as it became clear how serious her relationship with Harry had become.’

Others have apparently been left baffled because Meghan was the one to start the friendships, with multiple sources telling Grazia she initially made approaches on social media, before cooling things off again.

Meghan is now believed to be growing her social circle in the upper echelons, with insiders suggesting she had made friends with Harry’s society crowd, including Princess Eugenie, Rose van Cutsem (head of membership at Soho Farmhouse) and Lara Hughes-young, wife of Harry’s best friend Tom Inskip. She is thought to have reduced contact with her Suits colleagues since leaving Canada, in the meantime, as well as UK friends outside of royal circles, including Millie Mackintosh.

‘Meghan is extremely sociable and charming,’ added the source. ‘But her life has changed and certain friendships can’t go on. Everyone is just very happy for her.’
