Gorges du Verdon, France
This gorgeous spot in central Provence is nicknamed Europe’s Grand Canyon – and it’s easy to see why. Sheer limestone cliffs plummet into the turquoise water of the Verdon River below. Explore it by driving the winding 130km road along the top of the gorge for breathtaking views, or hike the 15km Sentier Martel, a vista-packed canyon route. Either way, end your explorations on the water – head to the Pont de Galetas and hire a pedalo for a leisurely paddle among stunning surrounds.
