The latest A-list beauty obsession? Sculpting your smile
Whether it’s Kim Kardashian flashing her sparkly grill (above) last week or Riri promoting her Fenty Beauty range (right), with its gorgeous lipsticks, the one common denominator is a set of perfect teeth. The best way to slow down the clock is to invest in your smile – an approach that has seen the dental market rise to £2.4bn, up 73% from 2012. But instead of simply whitening your teeth, the new treatments are more extreme...
gummy Botox
‘ The shorter your teeth, the older your smile looks,’ says Dr Sameer Patel from Elleven Dental. But with six million Brits suffering from teeth grinding and jaw clenching, this seems inevitable. Enter Botox, injected into the jaw to stop you biting down with force. This treatment was praised by the
International Dental Journal as being ‘as effective as a mouthguard’. From £695 with Dr Tapan Patel at Phi Clinic and effects last around three months ( phiclinic.com).
teeth expansion
Think braces are just for tweens? Think again. ‘ Teeth tend to drift inwards, towards the tongue as we age, which results in loss of facial form,’ says Dr Sameer Patel. The newest technique is Sure Smile, which reduces brace time by up to 40% by using NASA technology to pre-bend the wires that attach to your teeth, so the tooth is encouraged to go from A to B faster. From £750 at Elleven Dental (ellevendental.com).
Dermal Contouring
Gum fillers are set to be the dental trend of 2018. Injected into gums, they increase volume and fill out any gaps. ‘As we age, we lose tone and volume of the skin, including the gum around the teeth,’ says Dr Counihan of Metamorphosis Orthodontics. ‘ Young people show about 2mm of gum.’ Costing around £300, and taking 10 minutes to complete, this could knock years off.
