Don’t sweat it

-

WE COULD TELL you not to have that extra glass of wine on a school night, but would you listen? The same goes for wearing make-up to your workout. You know it’s not the best idea but, hey, you’ll take your chances. Plus, if it’s a lunchtime class or you’re socialising afterwards, the removing/reapplying rigmarole can be more arduous than the exercise class. Marching to your face’s defence comes an army of non-comedogenic cosmetics. This means that rather than clogging pores and preventing toxins like sweat and sebum escaping, you can perspire in confidence knowing that there will be minimum bacteria build-up. Read: less risk of spots, redness and inflammation. It also stops those drops of foundation or beads of bronzer forming on your skin. This make-up magic is down to a new generation of specially tasked sweatproof polymers that don’t react to oil or sebum on the skin. ‘ They work like a mesh to allow your skin to breathe but keep other ingredients, like SPF or pigments, in place,’ explains Dr Tom Mammone, vice president at Clinique R&D, which uses polymeric technology in its Cliniquefit range. ARROW, Birchbox’s workout make-up, also relies on polymers combined with botanicals like coconut water rather than oils and waxes to prevent flaking, smudges or drips. The formula stretches and moves as much as your body, meaning you can push yourself to the limits without worrying about panda eyes or sweat-streaked cheeks. Game-face, done.

Wearing make-up for workouts just got the go-ahead, thanks to some fancy new formulas designed to bend and flex with your face
