clothes should be powerful – but fun ...says Julie de Libran, creative director at Sonia Rykiel, of Sofia Coppola’s 2006 film Marie Antoinette
‘I love all of Sofia’s movies, they are so inspiring thanks to her eye, aesthetic and attention to detail. This period in history and these exaggerated costumes are such a contrast to our lives today. I love the exaggeration of the shopping scene; Kirsten Dunst acts with perfection in this moment of indulgence and the costumes by Milena Canonero are so extreme – inspired by that time, with a twist. The colours, the details, the finishings… This film influenced my work not necessarily in the colour palette but in the femininity, power of clothes, exaggeration and fun.’
