PRESS EXIT ON BREXIT
What a breathtakingly honest – as usual – column by Polly Vernon on Brexit (18 Feb). It cuts through all the rubbish we’ve heard over the last two years, especially the moral pontificating. If only we had similarly honest MPS… Ruth
I woke my husband today with a loud, enthusiastic ‘yes’ (a sound he rarely hears!). All because of Polly Vernon’s piece. I related to her reasons for voting Remain – I like the status quo too. I like how things are for me and my little family. I can travel, I can keep my options open about moving for work (I work for a German company), we don’t have to lose all our European friends who’ve made lives here in the UK. So thanks Polly for saying what so many of us are thinking. Kathy
LET’S HEAR IT FOR CARERS
‘I’m neither a saint nor crazy. I’m just a foster mum’ (18 Feb) struck
a chord with me. My parents took in foster children and are still doing it now. It wasn’t always easy for me growing up. The fostering system is in crisis and my parents had to learn to say no when social services (desperate to find homes – you can’t blame them) tried to get them to take more children than we could really take on. What saddened me was I’d sometimes come home to an empty house. Mum might have been at some crisis meeting to do with the foster kids – a lot had problems. But I can only admire my parents for giving these kids a stable home, opening up their lives to make the children feel like they belonged. I just know I’ll never be a foster carer myself. Virginia
