5 ways to showerproof your wardrobe!

-

YOU DON’T BELIEVE in karmic retribution? You might want to consult your weather app. With record-breaking temperatures and clear skies over the Easter weekend, it feels only right that we’re now being punished with showers and goosebumps this week – followed (allegedly) by a random day of sunshine again! But of course.

There’s only one reason NOT to be utterly down in the dumps about the unpredictable weather – and that’s the clothes. There’s some really great showerproofing going on in the shops – and you don’t have to be bound for a muddy few days in a field to get involved. Here are our five tips for looking stylish and, more importantly, steering clear of drowned rat territory this rainy season. You’re welcome.

IT’S TIME TO ELEVATE YOUR ANORAK

Don’t settle for an anorak that has the aesthetic charm and durability of a bin bag. It’s all about elevated raincoats right now – think pleated vinyl body panels, an eye-poppingly bright shade of neon or some cool patchworking. Invest now and you’ll pray for rain!

GET A STATEMENT BUCKET HAT

It’s official – carrying around a sopping wet brolly is the biggest buzz kill. And don’t get us started on when it inverts. Our advice is to swap it for a bucket hat. It might not be heavy duty enough for a deluge or high winds, but it’s more than sufficient for drizzle. Note that a statement print will hide any raindrops.

SAY HELLO TO ANKLE SWINGERS

Nothing says ‘basic’ like an inch of pavement muck at the end of your hems. The answer is to treat yourself to a pair of cropped trousers. The style you want comes sliced at the ankle and with an ever-so-slight flare.

SHORTEN THOSE (WELLY) BOOTIES

Knee-length wellies are brilliant for wading through puddles to get to the festival loos, but they don’t exactly spell chic on the commute. Meet your new best friend, the cropped welly bootie. It’s a cross between a smart Chelsea style and a traditional waterproof rubber welly.

GET A PLASTIC BAG

Note: not the disposable supermarket kind (these are an absolute no-no). But structured styles big enough to stow your hardback, make-up bag and lunchbox in, are for keeps.
