What, this old thing?

PR consultant to some of the hottest fashion brands, Daisy loves a perennial winner

- By Daisy Hoppen

i genuinely only buy clothes that I love. I also buy less, and buy better quality. As you get older, you become more intuitive about clothes that you know will stand the test of time in terms of working for your body and style.

My sisters and I have clothes between us that we’ve been wearing for 10 years. We’re all vaguely the same size and body shape so we share everything. If we’re on holiday, we’ll often have a communal wardrobe, although some of us are more happy about this arrangement than others!

I used to shop on the high street, but I tend to do this less. I prefer to support designers who I respect – Rejina Pyo, Simone Rocha, Cecilie Bahnsen, Molly Goddard, and save up for their clothes when I can justify some shopping. I know I’m probably guilty of buying too many dresses, but I always think about what events I have coming up in the next few months that I could wear them to, and then how I could style them in a later season.

This smock-style khaki jacket is from Ganni. It works for a flight with jeans and can be scrunched up into a suitcase and then worn over a dress straight after. I probably wear it almost every day in the summer. It’s travelled with me and lasted so well that I don’t see this summer being any different. There’s definitely a slightly gothic feel to how I dress, so I love wearing it with a Molly Goddard skirt and lace-up boots. In the winter, I wear it with thick Heist tights and a loose cashmere round-neck jumper.

I think there’s a phenomenal amount of interest in climate change and it’s only a positive thing that it’s become part of the general conversation in fashion. I’m lucky enough to work with brands such as Ganni, who have long championed sustainability, and Shrimps, who are cruelty-free. I also think Story MFG is brilliant – they work with local suppliers and natural dyes.
