At the end of the day… Jessie Ware

There is no night-time routine when you have a newborn baby. Nope. I am at the mercy of a little person.

Luckily he is either sleeping or feeding while we do the podcast, Table Manners. Some weeks we can record three episodes in one week, which means me and my mum [Lennie] are getting quite sick of each other. People feel like they are sitting around the table with our guests. Our favourite so far is guest Alan Carr.

I always have eggs

in the fridge. My husband Sam has a lot of kimchi or sauerkraut which stinks out the bloody fridge.

In the evenings, if I’m in a rush, then dinner will be Marmite on toast with poached eggs. But if I’m going to make something a bit more fancy, I do a roast chicken. It’s so easy: you just shove everything on one tray and you feel like a queen for the night. I used to watch TOWIE religiously but I’ve gone off it, I don’t know who anyone is. The same with Made In Chelsea. My favourite shows are Nashville and Rupaul’s Drag Race. Oh and Love Island! Love Island makes my summer.

In the evenings I love to have a glass of wine, but I can’t at the moment because I’m breastfeeding, obviously. We got very drunk when we did a podcast with My Dad Wrote A Porno – I didn’t realise I was three weeks pregnant. Alice Levine [TV presenter and My Dad Wrote A Porno’s host] brought over orange wine and it gave me the worst hangover I’ve ever had in my life.

I’ve just got into audiobooks: I can listen to them in the middle of the night when I’m feeding my baby. I’m listening to Sally Rooney’s Normal People at the moment and it’s just beautiful. I’m getting through books much quicker than if I was reading them.

I am absolutely shit at trying to detach from my phone before bed. I scroll through Instagram too much and I hate myself for it after. But, I’ve been doing less Amazon spending with this baby than I did with the last one, which I do when I’m bored and my phone’s in my hand.

We’re writing a Table Manners

book as a result of our podcast, which is going to be recipes that we’ve mentioned on the podcast as well as some new ones – we’re not trained chefs, but people always ask us for the recipes. I’ve been writing it on my phone in the middle of the night since I had my son which isn’t ideal but I can’t type on my laptop one-handed.

In an ideal world I’d get 10 hours sleep a night but I get six hours which is entirely interrupted. The longest I’ve ever been awake for at one time was when I gave birth to my first baby: 40 hours. Jessie Ware is founder of children’s fashion label Anyware. Series 6 of Table Manners is out now
