words ‘My wife is dating Brad Pitt’. That may be the reality for restaurateur Roland Mary who, it was recently revealed, is married to Brad’s new girlfriend, Nicole Poturalski. That Brad and Nicole are in a relationship was rumoured for months (they are now known to have met last year), but as word spread of this new romance, her life has come under a level of scrutiny she’s never before experienced.
At the end of August, Nicole was seen arriving in the South of France to spend time with Brad at Château Miraval, the estate and sprawling vineyard where he married Angelina Jolie in 2014. Nicole, who has a seven-year-old son with Roland, has referred to a mystery new love in social media posts stretching back through 2020, leaving her followers in no doubt that while she may be married, she is not afraid of finding happiness with someone else, even someone who she met through her husband. Roland, based in Berlin, has known Brad since 2009 and is said to have introduced the actor to Nicole. ‘[Roland and Nicole] have a very relaxed and respectful arrangement that suits them both to a tee,’ a source says. ‘They have a lot of affection for each other and keep each other in the loop so there are never any nasty surprises, and their son is their absolute priority.’
‘Bizarrely, this works for all parties,’ says another insider, as Brad, Nicole and Robert are all on-board. ‘Brad is a very modern thinker, and he’s focusing on an exclusive relationship with Nicole. That being said, there’s no doubt Roland is not enjoying the media scrutiny one little bit.’ Reports state that he has told friends that the situation is ‘normal’ for him, but he has made no comment publicly.
Brad, meanwhile, may not yet be divorced from Angelina, but the courts have decreed that he is legally single. ‘It may seem complicated to others,’ a source explains, ‘but Brad and Nicole have a connection and they understand each other’s situation. They’re very relaxed with each other and they’ve been thrilled to have kept things out of the spotlight until now.’
Media scrutiny is one thing a new girlfriend of Brad Pitt simply can’t avoid, but the couple face another complication: Angelina. The divorce, which has rumbled on for four years this month, shows no sign of a resolution, and news of this new relationship could fan any flames of discontent. For now, though, Angelina is said to be sanguine. ‘She is taking the higher ground in all this, and she says it’s Brad’s business to do as he wishes,’ they explain. ‘She’s focusing on their custody case, shielding the kids and getting on with her life away from as much drama as possible.’
