Locals concerned at cuts

-

COMMUNITY campaigners in the Port have raised concerns over council cuts.

Tommy Rodger of Port Glasgow West Community Council says he was shocked when he completed the council’s budget consultation survey, which includes proposals like library closures and school staff reductions.

He fears for the impact on adult services and education.

Mr Rodger said: “Adult education and capacity building services are extremely important to us and many adult groups, trying to do something for their community.

“The closure of some library services will impact greatly on adults who use these services, not just to take out books, but to engage with others, attend meetings, and have access to computer services, as they do not have access to IT and computer services at home.”

He added: “Many parents will have concerns for the removal of teaching assistants who support more vulnerable pupils.”
