BOWLERS in Gourock held their first ever tabletop sale and raised hundreds of pounds.

The club in Barrhill Road held the event to open up the club to members of the public, as well as help local crafts people.

Alan Airth, treasurer of Gourock BC, was there with his wife Carolyn and said the sale was a great success, generating £300 .

Alan said: “It was very well attended.

“We held the sale to help stall holders and to raise funds for the club.

“It was the first time we have tried it and we thought November was a good time in the run-up to Christmas.”

There was a mix of gifts, knitted items, woodwork and jewellery for sale.

Carolyn said: “We also had 5th Greenock Scouts with a stall raising funds for their jamboree.

“There were personalised gifts, handknitted items and we had David Maugere selling hand made woodwork, Suzanne McMinn with crystals, Alice in Printland, jewellery from Elizabeth Robertson and knitted toys among others.”

Alan said: “To raise more than £300 for the club was a great success and the stallholders also made a bit of money.

“The demand was so great that we actually had to turn away five or six stallholders.

“We have been looking for ways to get members to use the club more and open it out to the wider community.

“We already have people with disabilities using the club and it is also available for functions.

“We want to be seen as being part of the community and are thinking of opening up on a Saturday for teas and coffees and soup.”
