BUSINESSES and enterprise organisations across Inverclyde were honoured for their excellence at a glittering awards ceremony.

Inverclyde Chamber of Commerce held its 17th annual business awards at The Chartroom at Kip Marina - the first after an absence of two years caused by the pandemic.

Now called the ICON Awards, replacing the previously named Bee’s Knees Awards, the event raised awareness of the work carried out by dedicated local firms over the last three years.

A crowd of 150 people watched as prizes were presented by former Gourock Primary School pupil and sports broadcaster David Tanner.

Inverclyde Chamber President Mark Spragg highlighted the Chamber’s achievements since 2019, and spoke about how the organisation is helping businesses to bounce back from the coronavirus chaos.

Generous guests raised £1,100 for Inverclyde Shed - the Chamber’s chosen charity for the evening - and the fantastic total was accepted by Shed treasurer Bruce Newlands.

Diodes were the main sponsors of the event, alongside Golden Casket and West College Scotland.

President Mr Spragg thanked organiser Shari Workman, the chamber board and The Chartroom for helping ensure the night was such a great success. He said the awards marked a ‘crucial step on the road to normality’ for the business community.

Mark added: “Having to cancel the previous two events due to Covid-19 was bitterly disappointing but we witnessed a fantastic response from all our sponsors, finalists, and our guests this year. “Planning for the ICON Awards 2023 is already under way, and we hope to see even more companies enter and attend next year.” WINNERS
