HIS LIGHT SHINES INTO OUR DARKNESS

-

AS I get older, increasingly I do not like or want to be walking about in the darkness.

At this time of year, as winter approaches, the nights get much longer in darkness, which as you know starts earlier and earlier in the later afternoon and so the chances of being outside in the darkness increase.

And driving in the darkness for me also seems to need more concentration and effort.

There is something unnerving about being in complete darkness.

If you are moving about, it becomes very disorienting and you are in danger of walking into something and hurting yourself or damaging the object you’ve walked into.

In more serious matters I wouldn’t want to be at war with the enemy and plunged into darkness as one of the main ways of seeing him would have gone.

Modern technology nowadays would be a help, but I reckon I still would be unnerved. So, it’s the light for me.

And that’s true for me in my walk with Jesus. He is the Light of my life, and His light not only enables me to see where to go and how to live, but He also goes before me to extinguish any darkness there is. And as Jesus said He is the light of the world, the same holds good for you too if you walk in His paths.

We live in very dark times. The threat of a major war involving many nations is there and increasingly people seem unable to live at peace with each other, whether in national terms or even locally with each other peacefully.

The littlest things seem to blow up out of all proportion and some people appear to take offence at the slightest matter.

Jesus promises to be our light and His light also looks into and shines on our own lives. Into our hearts and innermost thoughts and highlights all that is not good in our character … but not to condemn us, but to help us change and be rid of the wrong ways of living, the wrong words we can say and the wrong attitudes we might have.

Let Jesus shine His light into each of our lives this weekend.

To tell us what is wrong and to highlight the proper way we should live.

And then to help us achieve it all. He wants the best for each one of us.
