JOHN Donaghey was someone who gave his life to standing up for his community.
The granddad, who helped to found Branchton Community Centre, was a passionate champion of his area, battling tirelessly for improvements to his neighbourhood, and ironically, against Inverclyde Royal cuts.
For someone who fought to protect health services in his home town, it is incredibly sad that his family feel the NHS he valued let him down badly at his time of greatest need.
John was rushed to Paisley’s Royal Alexandra after he fell seriously unwell at home and then slipped in the bath.
His family say he was left in agonising pain in a cubicle in the final hours of his life, lying on a makeshift bed in desperate need of morphine.
They have now lodged a complaint about his treatment and, if upheld, this should prompt serious questions of the RAH. John’s family are determined to fight for a full investigation - and they are right to do so.
