Brian: ‘Late goal bailed me out’

-

BRIAN Schwake insists he should have stopped Cove Rangers’ equaliser — but says he was happy to be bailed out by his teammates.

The home side found a leveller seven minutes from time through Leighton McIntosh’s header, with the blustery conditions making it difficult for the Ton ‘keeper to deal with the cross before the substitute headed into the empty net.

The American still had an impressive afternoon’s showing in the 2-1 win with an outstanding first-half save from Jack Sanders’ header keeping the scores level — but he says conceding the goal was tough to take.

He told the Tele: “It was going out and then one of the boys said he saw the wind bring it back in as well.

“For me personally I need to be dealing with it better, touching it around the post and making the save, but you learn from that.

“Luckily the boys bailed me out and scored to make it 2-1.

“For the save in the first half, I just stretched out to get it and luckily I was able to do that.”

“It was lucky that he hit it in my area, because obviously if he put it in the corner then it is a goal.”

The 21-year-old praised matchwinner Robbie Crawford and says it was only a matter of time before he got off the mark for the Ton.

Schwake added: “Robbie has got that in the locker.

“We see it every day in training, and we knew it was just a matter of time before he scored in a game.”
