The Phantom of the Open
Sky Cinema Premiere, 8pm 12 (2021) Maurice Flitcroft, a dreamer and unrelenting optimist, manages to gain entry to the 1976 British Open Golf Championship qualification round, despite being a complete novice. Adapted by Bafta winner Simon Farnaby from a book he co-wrote with Scott Murray, The Phantom of the Open is a warmly sentimental comedy drama, and Rylance birdies his portrayal of Maurice with twinkly-eyed innocence and unpolished charm.
