The vinyl frontier

-

IT’S really refreshing to see a new music store opening up in the Oak Mall.

Reverence began life earlier this year from one of the small retail units within the former M&S, but its trade has really taken off.

Now the local business is moving into the former Leo’s Cafe unit as it continues to grow.

It seems fitting that this move will place it beside what was the iconic former Rhythmic Records shop in the centre.

Many people were saddened when Rhythmic closed its doors back in 2012 — it seemed like the end of an era.

Few people would have expected to see an independent music shop back in the town ever again, but Reverence boss James Haggart has confounded that a decade on.

It seems there still is an appetite for one here, and a vacant unit being brought back into business is a welcome way to buck the seemingly never-ending trend of high street shop closures.

We wish James and his staff all the best with their expanding venture and hope that local music lovers keep supporting it.
