PORT JUNIORS FIRE FIVE PAST POLLOK

-

PORT Glasgow CSC Juniors 5 Pollok 0: Port returned to action with an impressive victory in their first competitive game in three weeks.

Pollok started on the front foot and could’ve taken the lead in the first 20 minutes only to be denied by several great saves from goalkeeper Robbie McKellar.

Port took control with some nice attacking football and were creating chance after chance and kept the Pollok ‘keeper on his toes and under pressure.

The hosts went 1-0 up after a crisp corner in from Alex Higgins and Kimi McGroggan made a near-post run before directing the ball over the line from six yards.

In the second half the 07s stepped up a gear with most of the play being in the Pollok half.

Soon they were 2-0 up after a quick-thinking move from corner between Alex Higgins and Bracken Macdonald. Alex delivered the perfect ball from edge of the box to Mark McPherson who finished naturally inside the box to get his first goal of the match.

Port’s third goal came from silky wing play from Bracken Macdonald who beat a few players far right and got himself to the byeline and cut the ball back for Adam Smith to finish brilliantly with a firsttime shot.

The Juniors made it 4-0 with a superb team move starting from goalkeeper Robbie McKellar and ending with Mark

McPherson receiving a nice pass in from Lyle McColgan. Mark showed outstanding composure, taking it round the ‘keeper and slotting home for his second.

Adam Smith got his second and the last goal of the match with a clinical powerful shot into the top right-hand corner inside the Pollok box giving the ‘keeper no chance.

The referee’s man of the match went to Jack Smith, who was instrumental in the middle of the park.

The club thank sponsors Gary Murray, Thomas Jamieson, Ross Guiller and Samuel McPherson for their support.

Under-16s stayed on top of the league with a fine away victory at Queen’s Park
