A warm welcome

WHAT a lovely gesture by the band Reely Jiggered to hold out a hand of friendship to New Scots who have moved into the area.

They are offering them free entry to their festive concert, continuing the warm welcome that people and organisations across the area have been quick to offer those resettling here.

This latest act of kindness shows the true spirit of Christmas.

A TRIO of community-minded musicians are showing the true meaning of Christmas by offering free tickets to New Scots to their upcoming concert.

Reely Jiggered, made up of Gourock sisters Alison and Fiona McNeill and friend Mark Norris, are staging a festive extravaganza at St John’s Church in Gourock next month.

The Celtic folk-fusion band will be joined by the Voices of Argyll choir at the event on Friday December 16 and will perform a mixture of Christmas classics and their own hits.

The group have extended an invitation to those Scottish refugees in the area and are offering them free entry.

Alison told the Tele: “We are delighted to be doing the concert, it is something we have planned for a while but couldn’t do because of Covid-19.

“We have asked the Refugee Council to extend a free invitation to those New Scots in the area who would like to join us on the evening.

“We’re really looking forward to the event, it is such a stunning venue.”

The trio say the concerns came to fruition after the success of their ‘Live in the Drive’ sessions - gigs they streamed from their Gourock driveway during the pandemic lockdown.

As well as performing their Christmas single from last year - ‘God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen’ - the group will treat the audience to a performance of their new single.

Fiona, who earlier this year won a Student BAFTA for her voiceover work, said: “We will be releasing our new single, ‘In The Bleak Midwinter’, next month and performing it on the night.

“The church is such a beautiful venue and we feel really lucky to be here performing in our home town.

“It’s going to be a night of good fun, great music and some audience participation thrown in too.”

Tickets for the Christmas concert, which starts at 7.30pm, are priced at £12.
