Wanderers fail to turn fighting spirit into points

-

the ball and the home side punished them by using the wind to regain ground.

In the 64th minute another series of passes between backs and forwards resulted in a further try to the home side 43-6.

With 10 minutes to play, Wanderers had worked their way into Strathmore’s half and a series of short penalties resulted in another infringement allowing the home side to push Wanderers back into their own half with a wind assisted kick.

A further try through their forwards moved the final score onto 50-6 but this was not a true reflection of the game as Wanderers did not cave into the home side’s pressure.

There were 30 call-offs across the club on Saturday which did not help, as mentioned in this column before this is very much a development season for the team.

Meanwhile, the bottom club in the league, Royal High, could not field a side again at the weekend and were docked a further four points leaving them 10 points behind Wanderers.

Elsewhere the 2nd XV were away to West, who they defeated last week at home, but with a depleted team they did well to only lose 35-15.

The Ladies game has been cancelled as Hamilton could not raise a side.

On Friday evening a big crowd were entertained by two competitive games. A combined under-13/under-14s side lost to Birkmyre and the under15s prevailed over Bishopton.
