Mulch has many benefits

-

JUST what is mulch, I can hear you ask.

In simple terms mulches are generally used to save water and suppress weeds and improve the soil around your plants.

Moreover, mulches can protect the roots of plants during winter and deter some pests yet encourage beneficial organisms.

Some mulches can be biodegradable such as garden compost, wood chippings and leaf mould and well-rotted manure. Non-biological mulches do not boost the fertility of the soil but they do suppress weeds and conserve moisture and examples of this include slate, shingle, pebbles and stone chips. Mulches can also be applied to containers where required.
