■ Gulf in class was evident for ports
ARRIVALS - Tuesday November 29
IT is a sad fact that the Strick Line prospered when many of the ports in the Persian Gulf lacked deep water berths for ships such as theirs, and once such facilities were built, containerisation put paid to the old general cargo trade.
Carrying Strick Line’s distinctive funnel colours, the 7,523 grt Khuzistan was completed in 1955 by J. Readhead & Sons Ltd at South Shields and spent 18 years on the UK/Gulf trade before being sold for further trading.
