THERE is still time to plant tulip bulbs if you haven’t already done so. Other bulbs, such as daffodils, can still be planted albeit they will be a tad later in flowering. If you have prepared hyacinths still located in the dark domain, then these should be taken out and the shoots should be a couple of inches tall.

Take the pots or bowls out into subdued light and leave them there to ‘green-up’ for a week before taking them indoors where they will soon come into flower. The same applies to paperwhite bulbs and, of course, there are the amaryllis which should be growing well by now. Crocus, which is great food for mice and squirrels, can have grated soap placed over the compost and this will deter these little pests.
