Penalty agony for St Andrew’s

-

ST Andrew’s 2009s exited the Scottish Cup after a penalty shoot-out defeat against St Cadoc’s in a game the Greenock side felt they should have won.

The hosts started on the front-foot and took the game to St Cadoc’s as they went searching for an early breakthrough.

St Cadoc’s missed a penalty and Saints goalkeeper Casement pulled off two low saves to deny the visitors.

St Andrew’s opened the scoring early in the second half when the ball broke kindly to Dean Black, who made no mistake with a calm finish after 36 minutes.

But the visitors equalised with 10 minutes remaining.

Jayden Sexton’s strike was denied by a wonder save from the St Cadoc’s ‘keeper late on before St Andrew’s suffered heartache in the penalty shootout, losing 4-3.

Coaches’ man of the match was Adam Engleby and the referee’s man of the match was Dean Black.

● PORT Glasgow Boys’ Club Orange Under-19s 4 St Mungo’s Under-21s 1: A Friday night friendly saw Port enjoy a comfortable warm-up win. It was an even affair in the first half, with Ross Peacock’s delivery and Ryan McCabe’s movement and workrate shining through for the hosts.

In the second half the Port found a another gear and managed to grab a few goals through Lee Wilson, Kyle Fuller and a Lennon Crawley double. Debutant Conor Weston acquitted himself well in the middle of the park. Credit to both sides who played attractive football throughout and, although it was a friendly, there was a competitive edge to it with both teams going for it until the final whistle.
