- By Gordon McCracken Gordon.Mccracken@newsquest.co.uk

ADVICE on how to stay safe over the festive period will be available at the Oak Mall next week.

Staff from Inverclyde Council’s trading standards team, Police Scotland and antidisability hate crime charity I Am Me Scotland will be at the shopping centre between 10am and 2pm on Tuesday.

A RAPIDLY rising Greenock fighter believes his UFC dreams are within touching distance after finishing the year with a flawless results card.

Reece McEwan’s latest triumph against Italian martial artist Teodoro Scolieri at Cage Warriors 146 means he will end 2022 with three victories from his first three fights at Europe’s biggest promotion.

The 27-year-old overcame his opponent, a last minute replacement for Englishman Adam Wilson, in the second round of their scrap.

After an explosive opening round from the jiu jitsu black belt, Reece was able to take control of the fight and win by submission.

With two fights left on his Cage Warriors deal, the young fighter hopes he’s earned a shot at the title in the new year.

He said: “I’ve had three fights this year and won all of them. I’ve been learning through every round I’ve fought this year and improving all the time.

“Last year I lost my first professional fight and I couldn’t get over the loss, I spent weeks smiling at people but I was struggling. “But time healed it.

“I signed with Sucker Punch and got the opportunity to fight in Cage Warriors.

“I won my debut fight in Cage Warriors, called out the number one contender and beat him in his back yard then won my third fight submitting a jiu jitsu black belt. “Last year I thought my dreams were crushed, but I’m ending this year a step closer to Cage Warriors gold.

“I’m just focused on that top prize. I don’t know when that title fight will be, but it’s coming.

“I’m in touching distance of achieving what I’ve always wanted since the day I first started watching UFC on TV.

“This time next year I want to have had another three or four fights, the Cage Warriors belt and be ready to sign a UFC contract.”

Reece says his large contingent of travelling supporters helps him to big wins.

He added: “It motivates me to have people spend their hard earned money to come and support me.

“When you come out in a big arena and all you can hear is people chanting your name it’s brilliant.

“There are former UFC fighters and world champions on the same card, legends of mixed martial arts, and yet little Reece McEwan is the one with the most noise. “It’s a fantastic feeling. “Having people be so happy for you is such an incredible moment, I can’t put into words how much that means.”
