THE SCOTY accolade is given by the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers (ASMW), whose members chose the Civic e:HEV as their favourite family car and then selected it as the overall winner.

Summing up the 11th generation hybrid-only Civic hatchback which costs from £29,595, ASMW president Jack McKeown, pictured with the Honda, said: “The latest Honda Civic impressed every one of our members with its smart new appearance, great practicality and excellent hybrid engine.

“Good fuel economy is more important than ever and we found the Civic to be extremely efficient.

“Add in Honda’s superb reliability and you have a car that is a more than worthy winner of the Scottish Car of the Year title.”

Rebecca Adamson, head of automobile at Honda HME-UK, said: “To finish 2022 with two more award wins for the Civic e:HEV is such a great achievement, especially when the awards are as prestigious as the renowned Scottish Car of the Year Awards.

“We are thrilled to have been awarded the overall Scottish Car of the Year for the Civic e:HEV, it’s a fantastic badge of honour, especially when we are celebrating the Civic’s 50th anniversary this year.”

Although missing out on the overall title, Kia scored three class wins, with two going to the Sportage (Family SUV and Full hybrid) and the other for the EV6 (Best electric car over £40,000).

Part of the same group as Kia, new luxury brand Genesis was introduced to the UK last year.

The Genesis GV80 won the SCOTY 2021 Luxury SUV class and this year the GV70 received the Large SUV honour.

The SCOTY awards, which were inaugurated in 1998, include a Used car category. It was won this year by the BMW 5 Series which was described as a luxury model with a breadth of talent that made it just as desirable used as when new.
