IMRIE: GAFFER BANS TALK OF CUP TIE DRAW AGAINST CHAMPIONS Forget Celtic game and let’s focus on hanging on to our unbeaten run in Championship

MORTON boss Dougie Imrie has banished talk of Morton’s glamour cup tie draw against Celtic and insists his players have to focus on the league fixtures they have coming up.

Ton’s reward for overcoming Queen of the South is a clash at Parkhead, but Imrie insists all thoughts of that are well and truly on the backburner for now.

He wants his players to focus all of their attentions on keeping their unbeaten run going, with a Championship clash at Arbroath today next on their agenda.

Imrie told the Tele: “The Celtic game will be a great day when it comes around but it is quite far away.

“We don’t go there for another eight weeks, so we don’t want to really get too caught up in that at the moment.

“For the club’s point of view it’s a great tie and they will make a bit of money from it as well.

“All in all it is probably the best tie the club could have hoped for, although for myself I would have liked it to be a home tie.

“But all of that is for another day - we have lots of games to worry about between now and then before it comes around.”

The manager says today’s clash against the Red Lichties will be a tough one despite their lowly league position.

Ton have already been on the end of a defeat to them this term and are looking to avoid a repeat.

Imrie told the Tele: “The last time that Arbroath were down here it was our toughest game so far this season.

“They really caused us a lot of problems that day. “They*

Priorities Imrie says his team have to to concentrate on Dick Campbells men, got to worry about ourselves and take in our level of consistency that we have had over the last two months.”

While the Red Litchies are currently occupying the relegation play-off place in the table, Imrie says they remain dangerous, as it only takes a couple of results for teams to move up the table.

He said: “Everybody is fighting for positions and points and we know we cannot switch off or think that we are going up to somewhere that it is going to be easy - it is not.

“Everywhere is difficult, especially away from home.

“They will be right up for this and wanting to get points on the board - it is only two or three wins in this league and you are right back in the pack.

“With Arbroath’s park being right next to the North Sea they are also used to the conditions up there and know how to play their pitch. It is all about our mentality and how we want to approach the game.

“If we get what we have done the last two months then I am sure we will be fine, but we have got to give respect to Arbroath.

“For us it is about going up there and picking up a positive result and hopefully we will come back down the road with smiles on our faces.”
