New library recycling
A LOCAL library has been chosen as one of the first locations in Scotland to host an innovative recycling service.
South West Library in Greenock will become home to a ‘Lend and Mend Hub’ as part of a project managed by the Scottish Library and Information Council.
Funded by the John Lewis Partnership’s £1m circular future fund, the hub will encourage people to repair, reuse, rent and upcycle everyday items.
Once it is up and running early next year, teams will bring in local knowledge and expertise to make sure the service suits the needs of the community.
Councillor Jim Clocherty, convener of education and communities, said : “As a society, we quite simply waste far too much.
“With the cost of living crisis and climate emergency, this initiative is perfectly timed to help our residents reduce waste and cut costs for the benefit of the environment and their pockets.”
