AN inspirational awards bash celebrating the kindness of the community in Inverclyde has been hailed a ‘huge success’ by organisers - and is now set to become an annual event.

The uplifting event, which took place on National Kindness Day, was the brainchild of community champions Alison Bunce and Willie Wilson.

The Compassionate Inverclyde founder and the manager of Branchton Community Centre say the party had been in the planning for years, with the party finally happening in the Waterfront Cinema recently. On the day, which was hosted by local life and leadership coach Marion Morrison, guests heard stories of inspirational citizens in the area and were treated to performances from Megan Murray and the Hospice Singers.

The crowd also heard from Inverclyde Council’s chief executive Louise Long and enjoyed tea and cupcakes.

Alison says everyone left the event with a spring in their step. She told the Tele: “It was just lovely and it was amazing to see the community come together for such a special occasion.

“Willie and I had wanted to do something like this for a long time, so it was brilliant we finally made it happen.

“It was great to come together to share and celebrate stories of kindness, hear from inspirational people and to have such a positive atmosphere.

“We’re already planning the event for next year.”

The organisers have thanked event supporters Gillian Maxwell, Margaret Woolan, Councillor Lynne Quinn, Megan Murray, Brian McLaughlin and host Marion.

Marion said: “Hosting the first annual Inverclyde Kindness Awards was so uplifting.

“I was taken aback celebrating the acts of kindness in my home town and seeing wonderful people coming together to share good work and good hearts.”
