STORIES from the Inverclyde community were highlighted through a series of events staged during Book Week Scotland.

Members of the Scottish Book Trust – which runs the annual national celebration of reading – visited the area to gather tales from residents through its ‘community campfires’ project.

Locals were able to share tales from their lives with writer Luke Winter, who pitched his colourful story wagon outside Port Glasgow Library and Greenock Town Hall for the sessions, pictured, as well as visiting events across the area run in partnership with Inverclyde Libraries.

All of the most interesting tales that were told to Luke were then shared at an event hosted by writer Sally Magnusson at the iconic Glasgow

Film Theatre.

The broadcaster and writer said: “I was delighted to host ‘Scotland’s Stories: Tales from the People of Scotland’ – and delighted Inverclyde got so involved.

“This special event celebrated the stories that remind us who we are, that connect us to our families and our communities and that enable us to share the challenges and the joys of life with eachother.”

Filmmaker Jarvis Gray also created a short movie for the event, which starred members of the local astronomy group and Inverclyde’s librarians.
