STAR WANTS MARTIN ON STAGE AT BEACON

A POPULAR radio DJ brought his comedy panel show to Greenock - and vowed he will try to get a famous local face to guest star on it soon.

Des Clark’s ‘Breaking the News’ was at the Beacon Arts Centre, with locals flocking to watch the funnyman host the topical comedy podcast.

The BBC radio favourite welcomed panelists Esther Manito, David Kay, Jay Lafferty and Mark Nelson for the afternoon of discussion taking in things such as Scottish independen­ce and the Qatar World Cup.

Des, who also hosts Heart Drivetime on Heart Scotland, says bringing the show to Greenock is ‘always a highlight’.

He told the Tele: “I love coming down to Greenock when we take Breaking the News around the country.

“The audiences here are always brilliant - it’s like a real comedy magnet and everyone gets really into it.

“It’s a great venue and we always get a fantastic crowd, so it makes for really great fun.”

The show aims to make light of the news, with panelists offering their take on national and global affairs.

The show has been running for over seven years and has broadcast over 200 episodes however Des has revealed he wants to get one of Inverclyde’s famous faces involved.

He said: “I am a big supporter of Ardgowan Hospice after Martin Compston introduced me to the charity.

“Martin would be great on Breaking the News. He’s got his own podcast now so he’s had plenty of experience.

“Maybe at the next hospice ball I’ll be able to convince him to give it a go.”
