Lewis’ has a goal-den plan

-

With three career goals now to his name, the Ton youth academy graduate insists he wants to contribute more in the final third after making getting into more advanced areas a key focus of his play.

He told the Tele: ‘’It was a decent finish.

“I just picked it up in a good area and seen the space in front of me to drive into. I think the boy has thought I was maybe going to go on my right, but I took it on my left and got a good contact with the ball. I was happy with the strike and it came at a good time.

“That is three career goals now and it is definitely something I want to add to my game. It is something the manager and I have spoken about, and in the last few games I have got into decent areas but not taken my chances, so it was good on Saturday to get one.”

The midfielder was also full of praise for Dougie Imrie, both for his influence on the club and his own game.

He added: “He is just really positive with me, and makes me feel confident when I go on the park. He encourages me to just go out and play my game.”

The 21-year-old’s goal secured the draw that takes Morton’s unbeaten run to 10 games in all competitions but Saturday’s corer feels they should have been given the chance to retake the lead from the penalty spot.

McGrattan added: ‘’It says a lot about how far we have come as it is never easy to come up to Gayfield, but we wanted the win. They boys were disappointed, and that shows where we are now as a club.

“I thought we deserved a spot kick for a handball and I think the boy admitted himself he thought it was a penalty - it looked as if it was from where I was.”

The attacking midfielder may have to wear a face mask in the coming weeks after an early collision saw him leave the field at full time with a badly swollen and potentially broken nose. He explained: “I went up for a header and then the next thing I knew my nose was really swollen. I think the boy has just flicked it on and caught me with the back of his head. It was a sore one but it is what it is, it is part and parcel of playing, you are going to get bumps when you go up for headers.

“It is the first time it has happened to me, hopefully it will be the last.”
