Leah gets crafty for charity
A KIND schoolgirl is turning her talent for making jewellery into a fundraising campaign to help people with cancer - with a little help from her friends.
Ten-year-old Leah Sutherland from Gourock has raised over £1,000 as she goes on a mission to help those fighting the deadly disease.
Working with her pals, including classmates from Moorfoot Primary, Leah made hundreds of clay bead bracelets.
They went on sale at a stall in Tesco Greenock, where her mum Lorella is the store community champion.
Lorella said: “I am so proud of Leah and her friends. They were amazing on the day and raised £800. They are all so kind, generous and thoughtful.
“They were so enthusiastic and polite and all our customers were very impressed with them. The girls put in so much effort and worked so hard. They worked on the bracelets together as a group and also individually.”
Leah and her friends Emma Lynch, Eilidh McWilliams, Lucy Brown, Anna Rodgers and Lydia Morrison managed to sell out all their stock.
Lorella added: “The money Leah and her friends raised will go towards the Beatson. It is part of the cash Tesco Greenock will hand over. The people of Greenock are amazing, whenever you ask anything of them they always donate, they are so generous.
“Some of our customers even came in on the day especially to support us.”

Leah previously told the Tele how she wanted to help support cancer charities after losing her greatgran Jenny Henderson two years ago at the age of 91.
On top of her jewellery making exploits, busy Leah and her mum Lorella are also taking part in next month’s 10k Race for Life in Glasgow in aid of Cancer Research.
They have already raised around £300 in the run up to the race.
