Scouts enjoy weekend on Cumbrae and welcome guest at awards

QUEEN’S AND KING’S SCOUT AWARDS CEREMONY FOR THE 85TH THE 85th warmly welcomed distinguis­hed guests and friends for an Awards ceremony.

This was to commemorat­e the achievemen­ts of two of their members who attained Scouting’s highest award.

The King’s representa­tive in Inverclyde presided over the event and presented the prestigiou­s awards.

Catriona Arkley had gained the older Queen’s Scout Award and Aidan Phillips had gained the newly establishe­d King’s Scout Award.

Both had demonstrat­ed exceptiona­l dedication by completing a series of advanced challenges. This included serving as leaders at Blair Atholl patrol jamborette & participat­ing in world Jamborees.

They also earned their Explorer Belt through a challengin­g hike around Mont Blanc & completed the Mark Muir Challenge.

They acquired new skills, and contribute­d to multiple community groups.

Both families were in attendance to see Lord Lieutenant Peter McCarthy present each of them with their awards.

The Group would like to express their sincere thanks to the Lord Lieutenant for making the event special for everyone, and inspiring the Cubs, Scouts and Explorers with his insights into the significan­ce of these awards and the effort required to achieve them.

A huge thanks also goes to the friends from around the District who came along to support the event and helped make the evening so memorable.

10TH SCOUTS

THE 10th Scout troop have enjoyed a weekend on Cumbrae.

On Friday and Saturday they faced the wind and rain whilst they were cycling and undertakin­g scavenger hunt challenges around the island. They had a night hike and an Easter egg hunt.

They weather was better on Sunday when they took to the water for power boating.

They also managed to fit a night hike and an Easter egg hunt into a fantastic weekend.

Well done to all the scouts and leaders taking part.

A special thanks goes to David, David and Emma from the District powerboati­ng team who brought the boats to Millport and ran the sessions on the water.

70TH BEAVERS

THE 70th Beavers said farewell to two of their Beavers Callum and Murray “jumped the river” up to Cubs.

Murray was also presented with his Chief Scout Bronze Award. Calum will soon complete his award at Cubs.

“Good luck Callum and Murray from all your friends at Beavers”.
