Dancers set for contest thanks to kind shoppers
SHOPPERS have helped to send a group of dynamic young dancers on their way to a high profile national competition.
Groovers from JD Dance collected £800 by packing bags in Morrisons on Greenock.
The girls not only impressed the supermarket customers by putting their shopping away carefully and efficiently, they also took time out to wow them with their magnificent moves.
Dancers put on a series of performances at the entrance to the busy store and provided some spectacular Saturday entertainment.
The money raised will cover a trip to the Dance Nation Weekender in Aviemore in October.
JD Dance founder Julie Darroch said her girls did an amazing job on the day.
She added: “They were there from 10am to 3pm and all did really well.
“They put on some performances at the front of the store and were really going for it.
“Customers were so generous and we would like to thank everyone for their donations.”
At the Dance Nation Weekender, the Greenock group will be competing against young people from all over Scotland.
They will perform a mix of solo dances, duets, and group routines.
Julie said everyone is very excited about it the contest and is working really hard in preparation.
A group of 37 dancers from the 60 who are part of the school will travel to the competition.
She added: “The girls really do train a lot and they work really hard.
“They’re pushing themselves so they make my job easy as they’re already really motivated.”
Julie will celebrate the third anniversary of JD Dance next month.
She started dancing when she was two and has been teaching dance across Inverclyde for many years.
Julie decided to strike out on her own when things started to return to normal after Covid.
She says seeing the girls develop their skills and getting to know so many families is the best part of being a dance teacher.
She added: “I’ve been teaching some of the girls for 10 years. You get to know so many people.
“The majority of my friends are dance mums, and we’re like a big family.”
