PITCH PERFECT
RADIO CLUB & 6TH SCOUTS THE Radio Club welcomed Scouts from 6th Greenock and District Scout Group, together with their leader Mathew.
They were visiting the shack to complete their communication badge. Prior to arrival the Scouts had completed most of the requirements, as detailed in the radio club workbooks, ably assisted by their leader.
All participants enthusiastically played Morse Code Battleships and Bomb Disposal games as well as a number of other computer-based games, designed by various members of the radio club, to test and enhance their knowledge of Amateur Radio.
Additionally, the remaining requirement for the badge were completed i.e. tuning a radio, sending messages over the airwaves and logging stations received. They were the first group to use the new electronic logging and mapping software. All of which was voted a great success by the group.
A most enjoyable and fun evening was had by all. Thanks again to Mathew for all his hard work in preparing the group and the Scouts for their enthusiasm.
The Scout Radio Club would like to thank Tim Makins EI8IC for the mapping software and Inverclyde Community Fund for additional funding.
EVERTON CAMPSITE
THIS weekend Everton Campsite held two maintenance days on site. The great weather on Saturday was ideal for clearing and reinstating ditches. These will help with drainage to keep the camping areas nice and dry.
A start was made moving wind damaged trees down to the campfire area so that they can be used as firewood. After a wet start on Sunday it brightened up. The stairs to the campfire area were repaired and the campfire area was tidied up. The storage cage was cleared out and reorganised to make it easier to access the pioneering wood and much needed wheel barrows.
The work parties also found time to gather some more pioneering poles for the upcoming competition.
Camp skipper Gary would like to thank the Scouts, Explorers and Leaders who gave up their time to come and help. “It was great to see all the people who are part of the district come together and help make improvements.”
If anyone would like to join the camp staff team please speak to camp staff on site or contact Camp skipper Gary Mcluskey at Evertonscoutcampsite@ gmail.com
