IT’S HALLOWEEN WEEK ON STRICTLY

- By Abby Ruston abby.ruston@reachplc.com

LAST week was a rollercoaster ride as Lauren and AJ performed the first ever Couple’s Choice routine, Charles and Karen jumped out of the 25 club whilst Danny and Amy scored the first 10 of the series! Guest Judge Alfonso Ribeiro gave words of encouragement which were welcomed by the dancing couples. So how will the routines shape up this week?

Week six is the fan favourite Halloween theme with 11 frighteningly good routines bound to make you scream with delight. There’s some seriously spooktacular routines planned.

Last week, Grimsby’s Kevin Clifton and his partner Stacey Dooley turned to carnival mode – swaying to the samba and impressing the judges with their intricate footwork. Tonight, they will be doing the tango to bizarrely the Doctor Who theme! So perhaps we should expect lots of stomping in time to the Doctor Who beat.

Week six dances and songs:

■ Ashley and Pasha Charleston to “Witch Doctor” by Don Lang

■ Charles and Karen Jive to “Time Warp” from the Rocky Horror Picture Show

■ Danny and Amy American Smooth to “Spirit In The Sky” by Doctor and The Medics

■ Dr Ranj and Janette Jive to “Monster Mash” by Bobby Pickett

■ Faye and Giovanni Couples’ Choice (Theatre and Jazz) “Fever” by Peggy Lee

■ Graeme and Oti Cha Cha to “Thriller” by Michael Jackson

■ Joe and Dianne Foxtrot to “Youngblood” by 5 Seconds of Summer

■ Kate and Aljaz Rumba to “Skin” by Rag’n’Bone Man

■ Lauren and AJ Paso Doble to “Poison” by Nicole Scherzinger

■ Seann and Katya Viennese Waltz to “I Put A Spell On You” by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins ■ Stacey and Kevin Tango to the Doctor Who Theme

Kevin’s dad Keith reflects on last weekend with a nod to Aesop’s Fables – “It is not only fine feathers that make fine birds”. He remarked: “I have to say Stacey looked fabulous in those feathers last Saturday. That was a costume and a half.

“I would imagine that there was many a jealous glance, a secret yearning to be an extrovert showgirl, with hips shaking like jelly on a plate.

“Wearing something like that ( I would imagine) would certainly explode a normally calm persona.

“If Stacey needed any encouragement to become a performer as well as a dancer then the dress must have accomplished the objective.

“But as Aesop said, it’s not just the feathers that count. Underneath the glitz and glam was someone trying very hard to negotiate the finer points of technique of a Samba which, as many people will know, is no easy task.

“The Samba has terrorised many celebrities in the past programmes. Basically you have to move in all three dimensions, simultaneously.

“The ankles and knees provide a ‘bounce action’, the hips drift horizontally from side to side whilst changing from foot to foot, and the midriff moves forward and backward to give body action. Try it at home.

“All this is happening, of course, whilst trying to remember steps and figures, many of which only appear in bonafide competitions. Certainly the judges enjoyed her efforts.

“Halloween Week brings another dance to the fore, with different technique again, but as I’ve said before, costume enhances performance.

“So all you Dr Who fans out there stand by for time travel to a Tango. I’m sure it will be worth waiting for.”

To find out how the couples get on, tune into Strictly Come Dancing tonight, from 6.50pm on BBC1.
