Some sort of restriction or levy needed for the Fitties

-

FOR many years the general public have been permitted free access into and through the Humberston Fitties Chalet Park, when it is open.

This has been to the exclusive benefit of those users.

This use has increased noticeably over the last few years to the detriment of the park residents, both human and otherwise.

The gates giving access outside the Fitties boundary (vehicle park, nature reserve and beach) to the east, are closed at night throughout the year.

The closing times vary to suit the seasons. Whilst it may appear churlish to restrict traffic through the park, it is also unfair to occupants of the park, to expect the chalet owners to provide a route through to the beach and various car parking areas, at their (the chalet owners) expense.

During busy holiday periods there are many hundreds of vehicles travelling freely along the full length of first main road.

They can only return via the same route, thus doubling vehicle use.

The rubbish and general human detritus, regularly bear witness to the comings and goings of the general public. Were it not for the tireless efforts of the Humberston Fitties Neighbourhood Watch group, then the areas surrounding the Fitties (the beach, paths and car parks) would be less attractive than they generally are.

Additionally, it has become increasingly noticeable, and a detriment to the quiet, safe and peaceful enjoyment of the area, that certain persons have taken to flying their extremely noisy powered kites/parachutes, when calm weather is available to do so.

This disturbs all but themselves. It should be stopped at the earliest opportunity. RSPB Tetney Marshes are a haven for wildlife and should be respected as such, and not used as a playground for untethered dogs, children and others.

What is the answer? Surely, some form of levy or restriction is an urgent requirement. Doing nothing and keeping the status quo, will ultimately be extremely unpopular and costly, to those (most of the chalet park owners/ residents) that, in fact, use the routes within the Humberston Fitties Chalet Park, very lightly, in comparison to non-contributing visitors.
