Why quarantine now when death rate is dropping?

- Tim Mickleburgh, Boulevard Avenue, Grimsby.

AT the start of Covid-19 outbreak fears, there was certainly a case for quarantining passengers coming into the country.

But why now when the death rate is, thankfully, dropping all the time?

Similarly we were all shocked over pictures of crowded tube trains in London, and wondered how this situation could continue. Now 12 weeks into lockdown all public transport users will have to wear some kind of face covering.

This is despite the fact that local buses have already limited the number of passengers that can board on health and safety grounds. I wish someone would admit that with a new strain of virus nobody really knows what might happen, and that the livelihoods shouldn’t be sacrificed over unproven science. Similarly, I wonder when the last time the PM and Transport Secretary ever went on a service bus?
