A MAN could need plastic surgery to his leg after he was savaged by a dog while walking in a Grimsby park at night.

The victim suffered severe bite marks to a leg and arm as he tried to fend off the lightcoloured American bulldog.

The 29- year-old man, who asked to did not wish to be named for fear of reprisals, said: “I still feel as if its mouth is clamped on my leg. I am just glad it wasn’t a kid who got attacked because it could have been a lot worse.

“It was close to an artery so I am lucky to be alive.”

The incident happened in a park off Sutcliffe Avenue, Nunsthorpe on Tuesday, January 12 at around 10pm.

The man needed treatment at A&E at the Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital and is waiting to find out if the wound to his leg will require plastic surgery. He said he was walking at the park to relieve the stress of waiting for the result of a Covid test, after a colleague at his engineering works tested positive. The test did come back as negative.

He told the Grimsby Telegraph he claims to have heard the dog’s handler shout a man’s name which made him turn around.
